Ozone therapy

A treatment method used in alternative medicine

We all know ozone as the layer in the Earth’s atmosphere that shields us from harmful UV radiation. It’s a colourless gas made up of three oxygen atoms (O3) and is renowned for its germ-killing and disinfecting properties. But that’s not all! In this article, we’ll tell you how ozone is used in ozone therapy as an alternative treatment method.

What is ozone therapy?

Ozone therapy is a type of alternative treatment that uses ozone for medical purposes. It can help with various health issues, such as circulation problems, rheumatic conditions, and immune system weaknesses. The therapy can be done through injections, treatments involving your own blood, or external applications. Depending on the health condition, the ozone-oxygen mix is adjusted accordingly. For example, in a procedure called “Minor Autohemotherapy“, a small amount of blood is taken from a vein, mixed with ozone, and then immediately injected back into the body. For conditions like eczema or wound healing issues, ozone is applied externally using a special bagging technique. For muscle tension, small amounts of ozone are injected directly into specific points.

What are the benefits of ozone therapy?

Ozone therapy has a range of positive effects: it boosts the immune system, activates cell metabolism, and improves circulation. This results in better oxygen supply to tissues and increased resistance to bacterial, viral, and fungal infections. It can be particularly helpful in wound healing, such as with poorly healing wounds like those associated with smoker’s leg, and in managing inflammatory processes. However, ozone therapy should not be used in cases of epilepsy, while taking blood-thinning medications, or with hyperthyroidism. It should only be administered by experienced professionals due to the need for precise handling.
