Zen Shiatsu brings body, mind, and soul into harmony

How the ancient healing method activates the energy flow

The traditional Japanese healing method Zen Shiatsu follows the belief that humans are a unity of body, mind, and soul, which in turn is integrated into the wholeness of the universe. Through gentle pressure along the body’s energy pathways, blockages are released and the energy flow is harmonised. In Zen Shiatsu, the inner attitude is particularly emphasised, because the treatment method, which is thousands of years old, combines the clear spirit of science with the intuitive art of healing touch.

What is Zen Shiatsu?

Like Jin Shin Jyutsu, Zen Shiatsu, which comes from Japan, is based on the principles of Shiatsu and combines them with the philosophical foundations of Zen Buddhism. Translated, “Shiatsu” means “finger pressure”. By using methods derived from acupressure and manual therapy, pressure points situated along the meridians, which are the body's energy pathways, are alleviated and harmonised. At the outset of the Zen Shiatsu treatment, the therapist first identifies those areas of the body that have fallen out of balance. Subsequently, the therapist will apply gentle pressure, stretches, and rotations to the affected areas using their fingers, elbows, or knees. Through this stimulation, energy blockages are released, self-healing abilities are activated, and the flow of life energy, known as “chi," is encouraged.
