The sunken tower of Lake Resia/Reschen

A bell tower peaking out of the water is the only visible remnant of the village, located underneath the surface. The village was flooded in the summer of 1950. In the course of a backwater project, hundreds of families who had been living in Curon/Graun had to leave their homes when 677 ha of land were flooded. Marble from Lasa/Laas: the white gold

Marble from Lasa/Laas is a limestone, which is mined in the Ortler Mountains. The marble from Lasa/Laas was already popular in the antiquity. It was used to build the Roman road Via Claudia Augusta, a great number of churches and later for sculpting. Today, the marble of Lasa/Laas is still widely appreciated and used, for instance, for the tube station in New York.
